On Monday, March 31, Pawnee City hosted the MUDECAS Music contest. The judges give scores from 5-1, with 1 being the best you can get. The band got 1s during their group performance, as well as Isaac and Bella Seitz's trombone duet. The choir, girls' glee, and Bella’s solo all received 1s as well! Both band and choir will receive plaques to hang up due to their high rankings.
When asked about contest, Mrs. Veleba said, “My favorite high school band song this year is Balkan Seven because it's an unusual piece. It was written in 7/8 time, meaning there are seven counts in each measure. As musicians, we typically only think in 2s, 3s, or 4s, so having to count by sevens was tricky to start. I think the students played it well at MUDECAS, and we received minimal critique on what needs to be fixed before Districts.”
Mrs. Dieckgrafe added, “My favorite song from the choir is Wake, Awake! They did a great job with their expression, energy, and sound on this piece. I enjoyed not having to travel for MUDECAS, that was nice.”
Both band and choir, along with the small groups and soloists will continue to work hard on their pieces. When asked how he could improve for his performance for District Music contest, Isaac Seitz replied, “By practicing my duet.”
Congratulations to all who performed! Their next performance will be here again in Pawnee City at VanHorne Park (formerly known as South Park) for the public on April 8! (Changes will be posted.) Come and support the musicians as they prepare for the District Music contest, which will be hosted at JCC on April 25.
