On March 21, the Pawnee City junior high band and choir attends the HTRS Music Contest. The schools that attended were HTRS, Pawnee City, Johnson-Brock, Sterling, JCC, Lourdes, Southern, and Auburn.

When the band members were asked about their favorite songs, Amelia Strathman and Mrs. Veleba, the band director, both said, “Early American Portrait." Mrs. Veleba also commented that it's a medley that combines Amazing Grace, Chester, and America.

Mrs. Dieckgrafe, the choir teacher, said,” I think they did the best on Shout for Joy! They were pretty precise with their clapping and had good energy.” The choir and band got a 1, which is a superior rating.

Small groups also performed that day. Receiving superior ratings were the flute/baritone duet of Aubrey Sisco and Sophia Sunneberg, the trumpet duet with Lane Johnson and Amelia Strathman, and the vocal duet of Isaac Rottinghaus and Ava Schlund.

Pawnee City had three different quartets: Isaac, Ava, Emma Turnbull, and Leena Bouthavong; Piper Eubanks, Alana Gyhra, Autumn Spier, and Camryn Fetherkile; and Cole Cumley, Jase Brumbaugh, Taytem Simon, and Diederik de Koning who all earned an excellent rating. Sixth grader Cole Cumley sang a solo and received an excellent, and Isabella Seitz, our only eighth grader in attendance, also brought home an excellent rating. Way to go, everyone!

These musicians will play their Spring Concert in the high school auditorium on Monday, April 28, along with the 5th grade band. Please watch for more information in the daily and weekly bulletins.
