On Tuesday, February 11, the flag girls perform to the song "Hot Wings (I Wanna Party)" from the movie Rio during halftime of the boys varsity game. Pictured above (front to back) are Ava Meints, Shyla Clark, Haylee Plager, Ava Schlund, Ameila Strathman, and Isabell Long.
This was the first time in a long time Pawnee City has had flag twirlers. When asked about the experience, Shyla Clark responded, “We are going to do it again next year!" Shyla thought she did well because she was on beat during the halftime performance, but she thinks she could smile more.
The routine was created by former vocal teacher and flag sponsor, Kristi Robison. The girls practiced before school and during homeroom. According to Mrs. Veleba, "If there is enough interest, we will have flags march with the band in their parades and perform at basketball games again next year. It was fun to be able to bring this back to Pawnee City!"
