On Monday, January 27, a group of high school band members plays in the Pioneer Conference Band under the direction of guest clinician, Dr. Andrew Feyes from Doane University. The group consisted of five seniors, Anna Meints, Cameron Ottersberg, Cara Pierce, Kayla Snyder, and Isaac Seitz, along with one junior, Larkyn Vlcek. Alongside other band members from schools in our conference, they practiced all afternoon, then had one last run-through of their songs before they performed in a concert at 7 p.m.
When asked about the experience, Pawnee City’s band instructor, Andrea Veleba said, “Conference Band was run differently this year, with all 11 schools in the conference attending at the same site.” She also said, “My favorite part of the event was the director ensemble. All 11 directors all brought their instruments along and played the 'Avengers Theme' on the concert.”
Anna Meints commented about the experience, “My favorite part of the experience was seeing myself improve so much throughout the day…My key takeaway was minding dynamics and matching tone/dynamics with the people beside me.”
Mrs. Veleba and Anna both agreed that their favorite song from the day was "Choose Joy" by Randall D. Standridge.
The next high school band activity is MUDECAS Contest hosted by Pawnee City on March 31.
Good luck!
