On Monday, November 4, Jay Martin talks to students in grades 6-12 about Digital Wisdom and Culture. He also offered a presentation that afternoon to faculty and staff and that night to any parents who wanted to come and learn about digital safety.
Mr. Martin discussed what social media can do to your mental health and how people can manipulate the pictures you post online. When Mr. Rottinghaus was asked about how he learned about Jay, he said, “He has presented for administrator groups that I have been a part of. He also presented last year at the Engaging Educators conferences.”
When asked what he took away from the presentation, Mr. Rottinghaus stated, “I was aware that social media uses an algorithm to hook people on its use. However, the specific manner by which a random-interval schedule is used to reinforce scrolling behavior was new to me.” If you don't know what Mr. Rottinghaus meant by that answer, we will be happy to get you connected to a site that can help. Just call the school at 402-852-2988 and ask for information on Jay Martin's presentation.
Thank you to Mr. Martin for coming to Pawnee City and sharing his knowledge!
