College

On Thursday, October 17, sophomores, juniors,  and seniors attend Apply2College Day. About 20 college reps came to Pawnee City so students could ask questions about their college. When Mrs. Lisa Blecha was asked how she got so many reps to come, she stated, “This event has really grown since I have come into the counselor role. My first year, we had 8 reps. This year, we had over 20. I think the secret to getting representatives to come to Pawnee City is to just ask, sometimes they might say no, but the majority will say yes. Also, I think that word travels and reps sharing with each other is a nice event to attend where the kids are engaged. A large part of getting reps to come back is the students, when students mingle with the reps and ask questions, the reps remember that and they want to come back.”

When asked if it was hard to plan, Mrs. Blecha said, “ I wouldn't say it is necessarily hard, but definitely time-consuming. There are many moving pieces and it takes a lot of organization to make it all come together.”

Seniors and their parents were able to learn about financial aid, and the seniors ended their day with cookie decorating in the colors of the college they plan to attend.
